Tech Pick - July 19 2024
I travelled more in the last 3 years than I have my entire life. I was familiar with the process as my roommate of 8 years travelled weekly. The few times we flew together, he taught our to pack lighter. People who fly out Sunday afternoon and then home Thursday night aren’t wasting their precious home time waiting for checked bags that may not arrive. hashtag#carryononly
The first time flying together, I remember him walking by my room, me packing my massive suitcase, and him saying something like “No. You’re not taking that.” and me picking up a carry on sized bag the next day.
So, in keeping with those lessons I quickly had to build a kit that let me minimize my backpack for these work trips the past few years. That meant I wasn’t going to carry the 5 original (and inefficient) chargers that came with my devices.

One time, I was waiting for a flight in a busy section of the airport and all the plugs were taken. My Mac was dying as the plug didn’t work on my previous flight. I asked a stranger “Hey, can I daisy chain your charger off mine?” Confused, he stammered out a distracted “Yes” as he watched in horror as I unplugged his precious power source from the wall. When he saw me plug it into my Anker, and 3 feet closer to him, I got a: “OH! Cool!” I don’t think he realized what he agreed to. Which then kicked off a conversation about this nifty device. Making friends in an airport AND keeping me productive during those long layovers.
